A great many people have articulated, through countless eloquent quotes, ways to describe that feeling of a dream finally coming true. Inspiring words that tap into the deepest feelings of hope and desire as they warmly hug your soul. When this happened to me there was no deep, thoughtful, reflective, insight to be found. No – I burst into the theme from Jurassic Park. DA DA DA DA DADADADADA.
I love Transformers. This news should be less surprising than finding out that Batman likes capes, but one of my greatest loves is Jurassic Park. Dinosaurs, Isla Nublar, Laura Dern, Mr DNA, We’ve got Dodgson here, Tour Vehicles…it captures my imagination like nothing else. There’s a very special magic to that first movie and that amazing, mysterious island. Now the two titans of pop culture have come together as part of Hasbro’s collaborative effort and I still cannot believe that is a sentence I get to type. For years it was a dream to just get an accurate toy of the iconic Ford Explorer tour vehicle, which is my favourite car ever, and this year we’ve got two, one of which transforms into a robot – WEARING A HAT AND SUNGLASSES. I already own an Alternators Swindle custom painted as a Jurassic Park jeep, but never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d see an official crossover. But Hasbro, uh, found a way.
What’s in the set? First up is a brand new mould that sees the iconic (I am going to keep saying that) Ford Explorer get it’s own, super-accurate mould in the form of JP-93. Second, we get a reuse of the Kingdom Beast Wars Megatron mould as unique “Tyrannocon Rex”. Re-decoed with to match up with Jurassic Park’s most iconic (I told you) Dinosaur Rexy, it features a brand new robot mode head and a red and black colour scheme for the robot mode which is inspired by the original JP’s marketing motifs.
Plenty of eyebrows were raised over the high price of this set, but of course, I was going to spare no expense and if there was going to be one thing that was going to completely ignite the photography section of my brain – it was going to be this. It was like being drunk on nostalgia. So jump in, buckle up and hold on to your butts as we take a tour through the Jurassic Park X Transformers Collaborative release.
“What have they got in there – King Kong?”
“Quiet! They’re approaching the Tyrannosaur paddock”
“Perhaps it’s the power trying to come back on.”
“Turn the light off…”
Photos you can hear #856
“HEY!”
Hammond really meant it when he said he “spared no expense”.
“If you are going to do something – do it with flare.”
When you are so hungry you could eat a robots arm off.
“I like to keep this handy for close encounters….with dinosaurs. Not Aliens.”
“I hope the waiting time for a Jurassic dentist isn’t 65 million years.”
Beastie Boy.
“Beast Wars Megatron? Never heard of him? It’s still only 1993 remember!”
“I’ve hunted most things that can hunt you, but the way these things move…”
“So I says to Gigawatt, “take us to the time when Dinosaurs ruled the Earth” – but I think he got the wrong idea.”
“Clever girl….”
“When you gotta go, you gotta go.”
“Rexanne! You don’t have to stop at the red light.”
As you can probably tell I LOVE this set and had a blast taking photos of it. So I absolutely do endorse Mr Hammond’s park…or errr – this set of toys.
